This site showcases the work of artists from around the world that are also Sahaja Yogis (practitioners of Sahaja Yoga Meditation). Many of these artists, after receiving ‘self-realisation‘ and starting to practice Sahaja Yoga found their artwork changing; they found new inspiration and many found they had a far greater understanding of the deepest aspects and principles of art.
You will notice on this site a diversity of work in a range of approaches and styles. This is perhaps reflective of the cultural, religious and individual diversity that can be seen in Sahaja Yoga, which is practised throughout the world. For Sahaja Yogis there is the experience of ‘vibrations’ - a feeling of cool breeze on the hands when experiencing something that is true, auspicious, or nourishing to the soul. Thus art is not judged with the mind on the basis of ‘style’ or ‘taste’; but it is felt with the heart, and on the hands. Thus the yogic experience of art transcends these intellectual tools of judgement and criticism.
Knowledge of this cool breeze, and its inspirational power, can be found in various religious scriptures from throughout history, but has largely been forgotten in recent times. It has been called ‘Ruach’ in Hebrew and Muslim texts, or ‘the cool breeze of the Holy Spirit’ in other traditions. The notion that art can give a spiritual experience and ultimately has a spiritual role is also more common than one would at first expect - this was the sole purpose of Zen Buddhist Art, to aid contemplation and meditation and ultimately experience what they called the ‘Yugen’ (mystery). In an instance at the turn of the 20th Century, the Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky wrote in his book ‘Concerning the Spiritual in Art’, ‘All those varieties of picture, when they are really art, fulfill their purpose and feed the spirit’.
If you like, you can try experiencing the ‘vibrations’ yourself while looking at the art on this website. Put your hands out - do you feel cool in them? Are you thinking less? This is what we call in Sahaja Yoga vibrational awareness and thoughtless awareness respectively. To experience Sahaja Yoga Meditation in the conventional way and to find all you need to know to get you started meditating at home go to: www.sahajayoga.org Here you can also see where there is a meditation program (always free) in your part of the world (or click here).
